A recipe for self-care

by Nelson Bay Health Foods Admin on November 23, 2020

Now, more than ever, we need to be taking good care of ourselves. We have all been pushed to our limits in various ways through isolation, whether its homeschooling your kids whilst juggling working from home, caring for vulnerable or sick loved ones or changes in employment and income.

I couldn’t think of a better way to do this than to give yourself a little pampering at home with some delicious, home-made natural therapies for your hair and feet. Most of the ingredients you will have in the pantry, and anything you don’t, we will have in store for you.

I find the whole process of making my own products from scratch a practice in mindfulness, taking time to consider the ingredients I am putting onto my body, soaking up the aromas of the oils and then letting the products work their magic! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Make sure you share your pictures with us on Instagram and Facebook!

Enriching Hair Tonic

A deep cleanse for your scalp, stimulating the hair follicles, leaving you with a super sheen like never before.

Ingredients:

½ cup apple cider vinegar

¼ cup water

10ml rosemary essential oil

Mix ingredients together in a ceramic or stainless steel bowl.  Apply to scalp and gently massage in with your fingertips. Wrap your head in a towel for 10 minutes before washing.

Dry Hair Tonic

As the weather cools down and the humidity leaves the air, our hair starts to dry out. This delicious tonic will add moisture back to your hair and scalp leaving your hair feeling soft and bouncy.

2 Tbs Jojoba Oil

2 tsp apple cider vinegar

4 drops Rosemary Oil

Aching Foot Rub

Stimulating, nourishing and relieving for tired, aching feet.

1 Tbs apple cider vinegar

2 Tbs avocado oil

5 Tbs sweet almond oil

5 drops peppermint essential oil

5 drops rosemary or lavender essential oil

Mix all ingredients together in a 1L jar.  Stand in a saucepan of hot water, heat very gently, stir, remove from heat and cool.  Shake well with the lid on before each use.

Aching Foot Bath

This relieving foot bath is a nice way to follow on from the foot scrub.

3 Tbs Epsom or Magnesium Salts

2 Tbs Bi-carb Soda

3 Tbs Sea Salt

3 drops Peppermint Oil

Mix all ingredients together in a foot bath or small bucket or tub with some water water. Soak feet for 20 minutes.
